You may ask, why is such a commonly used word in your opinion such a great word? Well, I will explain;
- The Functionality of being able to completely shift and turn around a point, with one simple, vivid, and friendly word.
- The basic structure of the word
- It's an adverb- who doesn't love a good adverb??
- You can imply the use of alcohol- without having to come right out and say it.
Let's delve a little deeper shall we?
According to Merriam-Webster:
- As far as one knows or can see: "the child nodded, apparently content with the promise".
- Used by speakers or writers to avoid committing themselves to the truth of what they are saying.
Another important point I would like to bring up is just the basic structure of the word! I am quite in love with the word. For a 10 letter word to only contain 4 vowels is rather impressive. It's constructed of 4 simple syllables that flow off the tongue effortlessly. It's starts off with a rather nice and easy vowel, moving forward to our double p consonant which is harsh to make people realize how serious we are about what we are saying (which is sorta what the word means too ;p). The rest of the word smoothly follows the "P" sound coming up only again to a softer "T" than in many English words all ending with the lovely "Ly" combo at the end. Personally, every time I say the word "Apparently" my mouth gets so much satisfaction as if it were a virgin having sex for the first time. Apparently may not be the most "sensual" word to say, but it sure makes my tongue feel like a virgin. Which is sorta the point isn't it? I think I may have inadvertently made Madonna's song sound like some sort of a revolutionary way of thinking about words in the English language.
Moving on, I am going to end on a stellar party note. How convenient is it to be able to imply the use of alcohol without having to say it? This can be incredibly useful if you are chatting with a group of several people, and you may not want all of them to realize that you were drinking the night before. EX. "My night was pretty crazy. Apparently I was acting like an airplane. Sound effects and all." From that sentence we can clearly infer that, indeed he was apparently not in the state of mind to remember everything from last night- So we can draw the conclusion that alcohol was involved. While the speaker is able to avoid committing to the truth that he did drink too much the night before! Which takes me full circle to my first point!
Conclusion? Apparently is...Well, Apparently it's AWESOME!
Thank you for taking the time to read,
